• Osteoporosis Front Shop Staff: Mod 4, 2026

Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to become less dense, weaker and more fragile, making them more likely to break (fracture).

A fracture caused by osteoporosis can lead to long-term pain, disability, loss of independence and a reduced quality of life. Hip fractures are particularly serious and can result in severe health complications or even death in older adults.

This module provides an update on osteoporosis for front shop pharmacy staff. It covers the condition itself, as well as medical and non-medical therapies for prevention and treatment. Preventing falls is a special concern for people with osteoporosis, as falls increase the chance of a fracture. Practical steps to reduce fall risk are also discussed.
